NAMIBIA-NATURE: As it Rhymes

Every aspect of environment has its critical importance. Here, we can take an example of Wild cats.

Scientists’ studies have shown wild cats not only have direct effects on populations of animals such as deer and elk, but also indirectly affect entire ecosystems. Without wild cats, deer dramatically increase, leading to loss of the riparian cottonwood trees deer love to nibble on. Lack of cottonwoods, which serve as riverbank anchors, result in extensive erosion. This is because deer eat young cottonwood trees almost as fast as the trees can sprout. Floodplains disappears and with them fish, amphibians, butterflies, wildflowers, and countless other animals and plants disappear too. Restoring the wild cats would re-balance its ecosystem.

Namibia, in this case has succeeded to maintain a balanced natural ecosystem. Having the world’s largest Cheetah population is the proof to the balanced ecosystem. Most of the Namibia’s free-ranging Cheetah and leopard populations can be found on various commercial farms.

Many people fear predators, especially big cats such as the lion, cheetah and leopard. This leads to their decreased number without understanding their unique behaviours, special adaptations, and essential roles in the maintenance of healthy ecosystem. But it is not the case everywhere.

Namibia is a free home for various wild lives. Francoise Steynberg is the Chief reporter of Republica Newspaper. She says- “You will see free roaming Rhinos, Lions, Leopards while you are driving in the road not necessarily in a national park.” I am pretty excited to see it, and of course scared because I am more likely to be on my bike alone.

This has been made possible by Community based Conservation system. It simply means Taking Nature and Culture Together. This allows wild lives to move freely around social places as well, and obviously, it excludes cities.

Namibia is renowned to be a stunningly charismatic nation and also voted often as one of the top adventure destinations in the world. The adventure range includes various natural resources and its diversity. Among them, Namib desert is an asset of Namibia as the world’s oldest desert. Kalahari and Namib are adventurous pride in the Country of Endless Horizons- Namibia. Desert adapted giraffes ,strikingly marked Oryx, ostriches, elephants add excitement with surprise.

With so little of Namibia I visited, I could never have explained about Namibia. Many Thanks to Francoise Steynberg for sharing these valuable information about the beautiful country that being very close to nature Rhymes to Nature.

I would be on the road soon and hope to feel the charisma of Namibia. I hope to share my experience soon.

Peace and Harmony,
