The Story of Tubmanburg

Tubmanburg is a wonderful place northwest of Monrovia. A key attraction is Blue Lake, also known as Bomi Lake. Blue Lake is about 300 feet deep. It is suspended midway between the peaks of the surrounding mountains which, the sun’s reflection, give the lake its blue hue.The-Story-of-Tubmanburg

The formation of Lake is the result of fight of human and the nature. Previously, the place where the lake now exists was an iron mine. The place was exploited for mining iron and when it was presumed that iron ore was depleting in the area miners went off, leaving the mining materials in the same place. It was a huge pit and nature felt it to make it beautiful. Water was filled in the pit giving a terrific view of nature. But the bad thing is, the mining equipment is still in the lake-buried under the water and not likely to be retrieved.

At the period when mining was in operation, the mining company had built infrastructures for health, education and settlement building hospital, schools, housing and an electric generating plant as a little compensation to the devastation on nature it had done to. But Tubmanburg had to face more than the natural exploitation.

Liberia was into the civil war and the beautiful place has seen it a lot. The little of resources that were developed for the place was almost completely destructed during the civil wars. Tubmanbarg, during the Second Liberian Civil War was also the headquarters of the rebel group known as Liberians United for Reconcilitation and Democracy.

It is a matter of delight that Liberia is no more in war but is overcoming its bad experiences of war. And it was a matter of pride that my fellow countrymen are also in Tubmanburg from the Land of Gautam Buddha to maintain peace as blue helmet peacekeepers.

On 18th of November, I was invited to Nepal Force Police Unit-3 Tubmanburg to share my experiences and message of Peace and Environmental Protection. It was my desire to be at the place that gave me the enthusiasm and strength to pedal to the place despite of the severe boil I had.The-Story-of-Tubmanburg4

I actually have no words to thank Force Police Unit of Tubmanburg for the grand welcome program. I was welcomed inside with the welcome music and was given respect by the respected dignitaries to share my message. It was a pride to share my experience to 100 countries of tour and request every blue helmet messenger of peace to make at least a very small effort from their side to contribute towards preserving our environment dreaming a bright and green future for our future generation.The-Story-of-Tubmanburg5-200x145

From the special Program, I also had a chance to be with all the peacekeepers and share some splendid times.
It was some very good moments I had in Tubmanburg all thanks to commander Gunakhar Khanal, deputy Commander Prabin Kandel and Trisul camp family for the welcoming, celebration and the wonderful moments.The-Story-of-Tubmanburg6-300x225

I also got a chance to see the beautiful lake which was the result of fight between human exploitation and nature where nature had won to give the terrific view to the beautiful blue lake.

Despite it was some good times, because of some constraints on my health, I had to be back to Monrovia the same day.

Tubmanburg and its story would always remain in my heart and I believe, the wonderful Tubmanburg will now on never be in war and always be a place full of PEACE AND HARMONY.
