Near to Death

It was nice to have the friendly and unique experience with village chiefs of Liberian villages.

5th of October, I was in Kabala with the village chief. Outside, it was raining heavily from the day before, I waited till 10 am with the hope that rain would stop but there was no sign that rain would stopped as I expected.
Whatever it be, I had to move on.
So I got my raincoat out of the bag, made my bags safely covered to save it from water and left the place (Kabala) at about 11 am in the morning.near to death

Moving slowly, the only thing I could hear was the sound that the rain was pouring in the trees and it was loud and terrifying.

I had been out of contact not having mobile network from the past 5 days and the devil of terror while moving ahead was all inside me playing with my mind and making my pulse go beyond control and attempting to make me weak.

Walking and pusing my bike in the rain for about 2 hours, the rain was a mild. I crossed 2 small rivers and I was in the third river that lied beautifully between 2 small hills.

By the time I had passed through so many rivers and canal, so I thought that too won’t be a big deal. I carried my bicycle and started going through it. Upto 2m inside, the water was upto my knee and one step ahead at about 2.5 Meters, the water level came upto my neck, suddenly, I was taken away by the water current. That fraction of seconds where I could think of anything, I thought “October 5 as the last day of my life”. That moment, I thought about my family, my mother, my wife and my 2 children with whom I have not met since past 5 years.

I was moving with the current along with bicycle, the more I was taken away by current, I was terrified more and feeling hopeless. I was soon going to be a part of the ocean the river was going to be mixed with. The more I was drowning and travelling with the water current, I felt myself closer to death.
Some 15 to 20 meters ahead, my bicycle stuck to a tree. It was Eureka for me, suddenly, I with my all energy, I got hold of the bicycle and tree. My bicycle was then stuck and so was I with the tree. It was a lot of joy in the middle of the river of which I even don’t know the name.

I and bicycle both were with the tree and stuck. Water was hitting my body hard; I had no more energy left to do anything other than remaining in the place.
After about 5 minutes, I saw a tall man and shouted hardest I could for help. It was a great relief just to see a human being around. That joy suddenly turned to grief when he said me he would only help me if I gave him $100. It was among the saddest moment of my life when I felt; money these days has overcome humanity. It was heartbreaking.

Life then was important for me than the conflicts in mind, so I agreed him and pleaded to help me. He came and helped me cross, helped to take the bicycle to the other side.

I was out of the danger, I was then saved. I then thanked him and requested that I would not be able to pay him $100 as previously said and handed him just $20 after which he seemed OK and left.
On the side of the river, I was alone for more than an hour, Staying there, I cried(wept) because of happiness. I got my life back, not mixed with the ocean, I was in a single piece and I had just seen the terrifying face of death infront of me.
If I had been lost there, I don’t think anyone close to me would get my body because as I said, I was out of network and out of contact from 1st of September( 5 days).

Some moments, and I collected strength to move ahead and moved about 2 hours before I was in a main road.

The road was big and I felt, probably there would be some networks so that I could contact people who care about me that and tell them I was safe after a terrible accident and I was just out of nearly death experience and I wished to thank them for being for me. I guess there was mobile network but unfortunately, my mobile was too drowned and it was dead then.

After getting in the main road, I anyhow managed to be in Greenville where I had Nepal Force Police Unit Family waiting for my arrival.

I was then able to contact everyone I could from there and it was a delight to find Umesh Panthi to find happiest to get my call.
I had a lot of wounds as the memory for difficult times on the way and all of which was healed by the happiness, friendship shared by and support I got from FPU2 in Greenville, FPU1 in Monrovia Umesh Panthi and everyone in Liberia.
It’s a delight to share I am alive and happy share my experiences. I will be updating more and more ahead in my Life.
Peace and Harmony
