From Victoria Falls to Harare

It was 7.30 in the morning when I was set to move away from the spectacular gurgle of Victoria Falls. With the next destination Hwange, 102 Km ahead and finally to Harare, I checked out of the hotel on 14th June. I was whistling in the smooth roads with pleased heart and refreshed mind before I have reached Hwange in the evening. Passing through the National park was also nice.

After Hwange, I had to pass through another national park where I need to follow the rule and not cycle so I was helped by the van of National Tyre to pass through the park to the second largest city of Zimbabwe; Bulawayo. It was pleasing stay at one of the caravan camping which as they say, one of the finest camping site. The payment system was unique for me; they charge for the camp and additionally campers staying inside as well need to pay.

Dry atmosphere was what I felt and barren lands was what I could see after leaving Bulawayo. I didn’t feel nice seeing the gunshots all around the area. Also I had blocked nose because of dryness which irritated me pretty much, and paddling was difficult.

I passed through Gweru and Kwekwe before reaching the capital of Zimbabwe. In search of cheap hotels I needed to stay at hotels known for sexworkers and such activities in Gweru. A little annoying, but I adapted. It was 10 in the morning of 21st June when I got the sight of Harare city. Harare Club was where I had a booking made by one of my Nepalese friend and I aimed to the club. I was annoyed to roam around the city for a long time. Though the city is not so big, it was like searching a needle in a hay for me. It was a kindness of the elderly woman who helped me to find the way to the club. Again, I was puzzled to get to the exact location and I am thankful to the pretty lady in the bus. I was only able to be at the club that day noon.

After checking in, primarily I was taken by surprise with the per day charge at the hotel. I needed to pay 50 dollars per night. Getting out to manage my bicycle, I found a group of people gathering around my bicycle. A little scared, I moved to my bicycle where I was pleased by the welcome and admiration of people. Jeffery, a reporter from ATV asked permission to make a report on me. I was happy to have such a humble opportunity to convey my message to all the Zimbabweans. Some snaps with the people of Harare was also wonderful.

Although a lot of times I felt lonely and missed my home, the feeling I had after Zambia was so intense and haunting, It was not good. Despite, with 879 KM cycling in Zimbabwe; around 1350 from Capital of Zambia and a total of 88768 KM till date, I am really happy to be at Harare. Zimbabwean public are really benevolent and cheerful.
