A Big Hole in my Small Pocket – Harare, Zimbabwe

des

I had a big hole in my small pocket, as I entered Harare. I was freaked, with little money and such a big expense, I shall never make to the world to complete my mission. Fifty dollars per night at Harare Club was much more than I can afford. Half an hour walk around the park at 5:30 in the morning was chilling cool but I was disturbed from the early morning of 22nd June. Things aren’t always as expected; I needed to wait till half past seven to get my stomach filled with breakfast.

While explaining my feeling about the hotel, I do not mean to reproach any of my dearest friends or respectable individuals. It may be my good faith from my last life (as we say in Nepal), I have been able to get support of such wonderful people as Nepalese in Zimbabwe. I just want to describe the way I felt. Though my Nepalese friend paid for the hotel, I always keep a thing in mind; I need to get to 151 different countries for which, financial management is must and I should only manage to remain safe and keep my bicycle safe despite being in Luxury. Several times because of constraints and crisis I had to stay in the woods and on the roads. In search of cheap motels, I had to manage staying in motels renowned for sex works. I just want to save money from good times to my bad times.

As I stepped out of hotel, I encountered Jeffery. He is the same reporter I met with the previous day as I entered Harare Club. Jeffery was on his way to office and after we meet it is his courtesy that he was ready to help me find a cheaper hotel. With his benevolence, he was already in my heart. He even left his office to be for me. After a cup of coffee together we went seeking hotels and among some hotels chose one. Though, as a cyclist, I prefer staying in camp; I had no better alternative in Zimbabwe. I shifted to Park View Guest House the same day. Jeffery also helped me to interview some newspapers so I could convey my message to all the Zimbabweans. His assurance to help me in any problem was words worth billions to me.

The day of 23th June was going to be great. I had set meeting with Nepalese in Zimbabwe. After meeting Reena Sukla on 12th, it was a good time spent with Subash Wostey, Sharad Neupane and N.K Shrestha. Mr. Sharad picked me up from the hotel the noon and at a restaurant we had some time. I shared my experience and described my mission and objective which they appreciated. I felt happy to know Mr. Wostey had read everything about me and we had fun reminding and recollecting my memories and incidents from past. While having a chat, Mr Wostey was so busy that he poured all the salt in the fish he ordered.

I am thankful to Mr. Shrestha for his help and support. Also I am grateful to Mrs. Shrestha who brought me some khadas all the way from Nepal. Without Mr. Sharad and Mr. Subash, my Harare trip would not have been so nice.

After I entered Africa from Cairo, Zimbabwe is the place where I had maximum expense. I spent 1571 dollars in a single country in a very short stay. Financial assistance by Nepalese in Zimbabwe was a great relief. After 87,888 KM of paddling, Harare was difficult but enjoyable. I had some pretty good experiences in Harare which, I will be sharing in my coming updates. Please keep reading.
